News Nuggets:   ONE GOOD TURN    HIGH FIBRE    FROM MILD TO WILD    NICE CUBE    WRAP UP    TIME TO CHANGE    HIGH DEFINITION

ONE GOOD TURN

Click to enlargeThis is sure to strike the right chord with all car clubs, so take note. High performance road and race car tuner Torque Developments International (0800 107 3250 or www.tdi-plc.com) is offering free - yes, free - dyno days to car clubs! The Essex-based tuner uses an extremely accurate Rototest hub-mounted chassis dynamometer, the sort of machine that's normally reserved for major corporations and research institutes. So if members of your club want to get together for a dyno day, TDI is the place to do it. There is one small condition, however. The day will be free of charge but TDI asks that each club make a contribution to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. You could say that one good turn on the dyno deserves one good turn for charity.

FROM MILD TO WILD

Click to enlargeIf you're a Mitsubishi man (or woman)), you may be interested to learn that Fidanza has just released a complete line of performance clutches for your favourite marque. With four different grades available, it's important to recognise that these are not variations in quality but instead, a way to ensure there's a clutch to suit your specific needs and demands. Ranging from the 2.1, which is designed for spirited street- and track-day driving, to the 5.4 version suited for pure race cars for competition use, Fidanza has got it covered. So if you drive a 3000GT, Eclipse, Evo, Galant, Lancer or Mirage, check www.fidanza.com for more details

NICE CUBE

Click to enlargeWith world oil prices on the increase and fuel economy on everyone's mind, there couldn't be a better time for Nissan to launch the eco- friendly Denki (Japanese word for "electric") Cube across the pond, in a country that's well-known for its high pollution outputs. Powered by an electric motor and lithium-ion batteries, the essentially square Nissan was recently unveiled at the New York International Auto Show and caused quite a stir. It's compact and quirky and its charming styling seemed to be a bit of a hit amongst show-goers, which gives Nissan an indictor that the Denki Cube could do well when it arrives in the United States and Canada at the beginning of 2009.

WRAP UP

Click to enlargeYou don't really need us to explain the benefits of exhaust wrap, but we're briefly going to do it anyway. By wrapping your manifold, you can dramatically reduce engine bay temperatures, which in turn should reduce intake temperatures too, potentially providing you with a few extra bhp. By containing the heat within the exhaust, it also means spent gases potentially exit faster. However, despite the benefits, exhaust wrap can look pretty grubby and unsightly, considering it's usually white. Design Engineering (DEi) is now offering black wrap, which is significantly more discreet. Prices start at £12.63 for a 15' roll which is 1" wide, but longer, wider rolls are also available. If you're interested, you need to contact Nimbus Motorsport via www.nimbusmotorsport.com or 01377 236170.

TIME TO CHANGE

Click to enlargeIts polished blue anodised aluminium casing makes the Gizzmo shift light a classy looking addition to your dashboard. It's a dual-stage unit, with the LED illuminating bright yellow in colour when the first stage is reached, and changing to a striking red when the designated change-up point has been reached. Installation is easy, thanks to a basic three-wire setup, with operation equally as simple thanks to a foolproof two-button system..

HIGH DEFINITION

Click to enlargeIIt's back. On its tenth anniversary, the makers of Gran Turismo have just launched GT5 Prologue, and it's promising to be badder and better than ever! Now backed by the graphical power of the PlayStation 3, the Sony team has made the most of the high definition format that is now available, meaning GT5 Prologue will no doubt once again become the benchmark driving simulator. Due to popular demand, a London track has been included, with the route passing famous landmarks such as Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and Regents Street. The full GT5 game doesn't launch until 2009, but for now, Prologue has six incredibly detailed tracks and more than 70 cars to keep you busy, one of which is the all-new Nissan GT-R. Head-to-head racing can be enjoyed both in split-screen mode and online, meaning you're sure to get hooked. We know we would be - if we had a PS3, that is!
